When do open relationships ever work in the long run ?

and in the long run it really doesn't seem viable... it seems delusionnal... burning the candle by both ends, excess always seems to turn on you

For those who are in open relationships what brought you there ? was it a cheating partner ?When do open relationships ever work in the long run ?
I have friends that do. They were in to swinging with the partners they were with before. When they got together they contiuned to do it. They have been married for 11 years and still do it. Not as often but they do it. They did not cheat. They have rules and it is a couple thing. They cannot go off and do their own thing without the permission of the other. They know the game and what is allowed and they stay within the boundaries. This is very important. When do open relationships ever work in the long run ?
The type of open relationship you are talking about never works. One party will grow weary and begin to resent the other person still out having fun.

My husband and I have an open relationship in that we have no secrets but we don't share intimacy with others. I hope our ';open'; relationship will last forever.
Lots of couples do different things that are not in the conventional

marriage package .

They figure out what they want to do as a couple and live a life like everyone else . They make adjustments as needed and

work towards being happy .

They are no more doomed to fail than conventional marriages .
